Nasa Shuttle Ride

NASA built an attraction at the Kennedy Space Center called “The Space Shuttle Experience”. It is a cabin on hydraulics, much like Star Tours at Disneyland, with 3 screens at the front to depict a shuttle takeoff scene. I textured, animated, lit and rendered the elements. The entire show was 3D. Because the shuttle flies full frame across 3 HD 1080P screens, I painted dozens of texture maps that were up to 12k in size. We had excellent photo reference to look at, alas nothing was angled to clone from, so I ended up painting materials from scratch. I learned the hard way that the bottom of the shuttle is made of 30,000 individual ceramic tiles, each with its own place on the hull, and labeled. I built a set of macro tools in Photoshop to take some of the tedium of drawing hundreds of tile lines by hand. The only thing that was cloned were the caution labels and the NASA logo. This scaled clip is part of the center screen sequence. Look Effects.
